gQ Marley is a nerdy, back pack rapping, hipster with a cause. This musician has carved his own path, honoring the traditional essence of hip hop while bringing his own creative style and personality displayed throughout his music. Through his thought provoking metaphors, vivid storytelling, clever wordplay, and unique delivery, gQ plans to take the world by storm and become the greatest artist to come out of Texas.
gQ has been honing his lyrical dexterity and continues to improve as time passes. From his live performances to his songwriting ability, gQ continues to prove to the masses that he has the potential of becoming a household name in both hip hop and the mainstream industry. gQ has released two mixtapes, DREAM (Dare & Risk Everything to Achieve More) & DREAM II: Revenge of the NERD. Both projects have garnered attention as well as praise from numerous blog sites and have given gQ the opportunity to perform with established artists such as King Chip, Curren$y, Big Sean, Stalley, Jon Connor, and many more.
Born and raised on the Eastside of inner city San Antonio, gQ Marley fell in love with rap at the age of 13. gQ’s older brother introduced to him to legendary rapper, the Notorious BIG and the rest was history. As a way to avoid gang violence & drugs, gQ used rap as way of self-expression. It wasn’t until February 10, 2004, when the world of hip hop and gQ’s world would be impacted by superstar rapper, Kanye West’s debut album “The College Dropout.” From there other rappers such as Drake, J. Cole, and Big Sean were given the opportunity to express their style of music which inspired gQ, to find his voice and make the tough decision to dedicate his life to his art following his academic career at Texas A&M University in 2011.
gQ is currently working on his debut EP, “Side Effects,” which is a sound that he has been developing for the last two years. Drawing his experience from hardships, relationships, family, and the dreams of success, “Side Effects,” is slated for release later this year.
