The End Of An Era: My Chemical Romance

So long, and goodnight…

“Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We’ve gotten to go places we never knew we would. We’ve been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible. We’ve shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end. Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure.” – My Chemical Romance

But…but…HOW COULD THEY? I’m NOT okay with this. Let’s be real, My Chem was probably your favorite band at some point in your life. I mean, who doesn’t remember jamming out to Helena or The Black Parade?! I remember 6th grade like it was yesterday; I was voting on TRL (Total Request Live) to keep MCR in the number one music video spot, and bought my first EVER CD, which just happened to be Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. Their music made a huge impact on my life, and was a positive influence in struggling teenagers’ lives for many, many years. With lyrics such as “raise your voice every single time they try and shut your mouth,” and “I am not afraid to keep on living,” they were able to be there for kids through their music. There have been countless stories of the members talking to fans after shows, and giving them words of encouragement and hope. After finally seeing them live in 2011, I was mesmerized. It was such a rarity to see the whole crowd jumping and chanting the lyrics of a band, but I guess this was the magic that came with My Chem. Just seeing how the crowd and band bonded so closely left me in awe. After being in existence for a dozen years, there’s no arguing that MCR has changed the face of music. After playing one sold out show after another, I guess the band has decided to declare The End. As sad as it may be, I can definitely see a reunion tour in the future. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!
