    June 19, 2021 /

A Giant Dog | Pleasure Venom | Dregs @ Hotel Vegas Photographer Levy Castleberry After a year and a half of silence, Hotel Vegas brought live shows back in the dramatic wild fashion we have come to expect from them. Playing to a sold-out crowd, A Giant Dog, Pleasure Venom, and Dregs gave Austin the kick in the chest it needed. Here at Anon, we have been a fan of the photography of Levy Castleberry for quite some time. We are excited to have our inaugural feature of his work being with this show; it all the more helps hit home the feeling that we as a community are getting…

    December 30, 2020 /

Our journey in loving the photography of Daria Amaranth continues with the latest collection Mon reflet. Personal yet secretively distant; the notable features we expectedly look forward to from Amaranth remain. It is being surprised to experience the style one would assume we have by now grown acceptingly familiar with which suspends the moment of looking through these shots for the first time.

....to exist creatively in a way which inspires those around him to aim not high with their ambitions but instead to look within themselves to embrace the joy which comes through finding an artistic vessel worth pouring oneself into again and again on the path of self-exploration forevermore is as beautiful as the work Schwartz crafts. Be it musicians, writers, models, whatever the walk of artists currently calling Austin home, all seem to see his creative presence as a mirror before which they may see their better selves reflected.

To come up with a comfortable place where we could be vulnerable together, a place where we could speak openly about our dreams and excitement for the future. Hopefully, there, in that place, we would create something truthful, reflecting our trust in each other, a moment made beautiful collectively.

Abstract in a Brakhage sense with defined simplicity of underlying confusion, Yuka Kobayashi (aka St. Discipline) has a ghostly presence of future and past speaking directly to the unsureness of our place, her place, in the now. Originally from Tokyo, currently creating in Berlin, Kobayashi's voice through the breadth of her work carries a warm mystique. Each individual piece created—be it drawing, collage, painting, etching, photography, or the NOT TO BE OVERLOOKED videos (!!!!!!)—stands out solely for itself while offering one more perspective on an everchanging volume of work increasing in substantiality.

Anastasia Hexahedron set to work on her latest series "The Mist" not with a concept in mind but by accident. Having studied through the night into the early morning she got up for a drink of water. Looking out of the window and seeing only an absolute nothingness as the heaviest of fogs covered her city of Yaroslavl, Russia, she grabbed her camera and wandered around the waking dawn dream state of a city appearing abandoned. Her aloneness pressing in with each step.

Polish photographer and graphic designer Marcin Nagraba creates affecting, powerful, haunting photographs. The work a mixture of Gregory Crewdson if Crewdson were to place all levity on the individual in his shots combined with Andreas Nilsson (especially his video for Fever Ray‘s “If I Had A Heart“) if Nilsson were driven to capture the creative breadth of his work into a single shot. We love the balanced simplicity of such complexly designed frames, the duality washes over you with even the briefest glance.  One warming feature of Nagraba’s work is the often use of his mother as model. Intentional or not, Austin based photographer Bella Kirchner can sink your soul with a mere glimpsing of her prints. Kirchner has an acute sense of the thread connecting the life bridge from hopeful idealistic youth to ever alive truth in aging and the encapsulated wonder of it all. There is simplicity within the frame of her subjects which speaks and moves yet remains timeless and nostalgic. The weight of the lives captured, the tangible realness of their being, Kirchner stirs wonder in permanence. Her photos will be on display this Saturday December 8th at the Tin Whistle Art Gallery ( 5305 Bolm Rd). Details on the event can be found…

Based in Spain, photographer David Rodríguez has always been attracted to the art world with his love of photography starting in 2013. He bought his first reflex camera and began his training through courses and self-teaching.  His fascination lies in photographing people with risky compositions and an element of surrealism. He remains inspired by works from Man Ray, Erwin Blumenfeld and Guy Bourdin. Rodríguez prefers creating imaginary concepts and stories not grounded in reality, allowing him to transform his surroundings and challenge the model with unusual situations. The use of his photography techniques, whether high speed, long exposure or something else, is determined by the conceptual preconception he has…

    January 29, 2018 /

Photographer: Amber Rana ( Instagram )   Cuba is a country stuck in time: vintage cars from the 50’s and mid-century modern architecture painted in beautiful pastels. Although beautiful, buildings are crumbling and there is a lack of technology. However, it was refreshing to be off the grid and take in the culture, people, and history of a country somewhat unknown to the United States.

I wanted to create these little ‘Sloane Rangers’ who embodied this western energy, but while also being really mod and fluid, almost like they dropped in from space and are obsessed with Elvis, so they’re trying to…

    January 8, 2018 /

Welcome to Thrive! A weekly advice column for creatives and the generally confused.   Happy New Year! We have officially made it through our first week of 2018. I hope you are all still feeling the energy of last week as we and those around us felt the cleansing power of a calendar flip and a year change. I have always loved New Year’s Eve, not just because I tend to be a bit of an idealist, but because I love the optimism it puts in just about everyone else too. It gives us the strength to clean off the slate and say, “I can do better” or “I finally…

Welcome to Thrive! A weekly advice column for creatives and the generally confused.   The year is winding down and we are all exhausted, partied out (or still partying), and thinking about new beginnings. We’re also reflecting on the year — accomplishments, disappointments, regrets. In short, it’s a tough time of year and nothing makes it tougher than hanging out with distant relatives who feel the need to give you advice on “life.” We’ve all seen the memes, we can all relate to the onslaught of questions from people we only see once or twice or year. “When are you getting married?” “Do you have a boyfriend?” “When are you…
