SXSW 2013: A Place To Start

It’s that time of the year again.

While some venture to the Gulf to frolic half-naked in front of thousands of people in search of that week long buzz, looking to make a couple of bad decisions that might put you in a Girls Gone Wild video, I will be at SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Texas, a week long adventure for music lovers like myself. Here is a short list of artists I am excited to see next week amongst the chaos and the half dazed nightly walks in the live music capital of the world.

Eureka the Butcher

AM & Shawn Lee

Gold Fields

Hundred Waters

Cafe Tacvba

If you are a little overwhelmed by the massiveness of this, what seems like, never ending paradise of music, websites like do512 serve as a great guide to pages and pages of events that can be RSVP’d to. It is also a more than great idea to follow the bands you are anticipating on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter because they will inevitably announce a free show or two.

Needless to say it is an experience that has to be embraced by walking long and far distances in the city that will always stay weird. Nothing is guaranteed at SXSW so don’t get upset if you can’t get into a packed show, bring some money to tip your bartender, wear comfortable shoes, be social, ride the wave, and with thousands of bands, free parties, great local food, random celebrity sightings, and booze you are bound to find something that you will enjoy.
