Based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Suzies is an eclectic mix of psychedelic instrumentation and androgynous style. The members are no strangers to the music scene, having nurtured various musical projects from Haunted Leather to The Omecs. Consisting of Luke Bonczyk on guitar and vocals, Casey Huizenga on drums and vocals, Kyle Huneau on bass and vocals, Ross Turcotte on organ and Shane Tripp on lead guitar, the members cite influences ranging from The Brian Jonestown Massacre to The Stooges to Can. Forming in October of 2015, Suzies has already gained notoriety within their hometown and are currently embarked on a week-long tour supporting local friends Heaters in the midwest.
The bands’ interests are varied and diverse – aside from playing in Suzies, Bonczyk has also starred in recent horror films. You can watch him gruesomely murder his family in the film Playback on Netflix. Huizenga is a whiz at art, designing nearly all the bands’ merchandise and posters. He’s also a skater in the DIY scene and has had his photos and videos published on Transworld. Huneau also plays in Zen Star Beat Cult, an experimental jam-band who create songs in real time during their live performance. Shane Tripp and Ross Turcott were previous members of Haunted Leather and were the first to introduce the rest of the band to sounds from The Black Angels and Wooden Shjips. Suzies plans to record their new material once they get back from touring; you can expect more experimentation with haunting and brooding textures on their new album.

Trish Connelly is the Austin-based guru who does booking and promoting at Cheer Up Charlies under The Nothing Song. She’s always down to collaborate and plan a show or event in town. She’s an expert with mixtapes (for all musicians out there you’ll want to send her your stuff!), and making connections with the cool kids. She may have a tad obsession with comics and Corgies, but she keeps it under control. You can follow her on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
