Brooklyn-based band Small Black will release their new album, Best Blues, on October 16th. A ten track album revolving around the concept of memories and loss, Best Blues is “an attempt to re-examine the past, but also one to let it go.” Amidst the many items lost and discovered by singer Josh Hayden Kolenik after Hurricane Sandy destroyed his family’s home is a faded photograph of a women walking the shore at dusk. With no certain recollection of memories attached to the photo on their album cover, Small Black persuades the viewer to construct their own personal account of this forgotten image. Their song for “Boys Life” echoes these themes of memories and the past with their repeating lyrics, “pictures of youth/picturing you” over an old demo that had long since been forgotten.
