Mixtape Monday: Team Love Records Takeover

Embracing a carefully crafted roster of acts, Team Love Records remains continuously passionate for showcasing groundbreaking musicians and carving a physical space for music and art in an increasingly cyber world. Founded by Nate Krenkel and Conor Oberst in 2003, Team Love Records has since expanded into a tightly knit crew including staff members Rebecca, Matt and Autumn. The record label’s formation was ignited by Oberst’s frustrations at not being able to spotlight upcoming talent quickly enough on Saddle Creek Records, where his own Bright Eyes’ albums were released. Team Love’s first release was on June 22nd, 2004 with Tilly and the Wall’s album, Wild Like Children, followed by Jenny Lewis’ solo debut with The Watson Twins in 2006. The label has grown to include other acts like New Paltz’ trio QUARTERBACKS, bedroom/dream-pop lullabies by Long Beard, experimental tunes by Roz and the Rice Cakes and folk/country siblings’ The Felice Brothers. Currently based in New Paltz in an art gallery and music space on Church Street, the label remains increasingly busy with the recent release of Choir Boy‘s Passive with Desire‘s album, meshing their love for relateable moments with their love for modern mythology, as well as Shana Falana‘s latest release for Here Comes the Wave. For those of you in Austin, TX, you can catch Shana Falana on tour at Cheer Up Charlies (900 Red River St) on Saturday, November 12th with shoegaze/psychedelic acts Hidden Ritual, Part Time, Krista Van Liew, The Diamond Center and Grape St on the bill. Nate was generous enough to devote his time to creating a Mixtape Monday playlist for us this week, including a medley of Team Love Records’ acts to keep on your music radar. You can stay updated with the label on their website, Facebook, Twitter and SoundCloud pages.
