As much as nostalgic retro throwbacks to 60’s garage rock ‘n’ roll have become a theme, Mikey and the Drags pulls it off in the most sincere and gratifying way. Recording and mixing their last album, Make You Mine, with Steve Christensen, the band infuses garage rock and psychedelic influences with organs and kaleidoscopic and bright visuals, on top of bringing absolute vibrancy to their live shows. Making their mark in the Texas music scene, Mikey and the Drags have played lineups from Houston’s Shakin’ All Over: A 60’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Dance Party to the city’s own psychedelic music fest, End Hip End It, earlier this year.

The quartet recently released their single for “Be Your Man”, an upbeat psychedelic anthem that would fit seamlessly into a top notch playlist spot during the party to end all parties. The track features Zach Alderman on percussion, whose instrumental interlude combined with the band’s use of organ, fuzzy guitar riffs and hazy vocals makes for a dynamic listen. With the band’s capabilities to encompass the very heart of 60’s psychedelia, they’re able to hold their own and stake a distinct spot in Texas’ music scene. Mikey and the Drags are currently busy writing new material and aim to be back in the recording studio in early 2017. For those of you in Austin, be sure to catch them live at our sixth print issue release party on Friday, October 28th! We’ll be throwing a celebratory party in honor of our new zine, with Mikey and the Drags set to take the stage at midnight at Swan Dive. You can find out more information and RSVP here.
