It’s a guarantee that any acts following Levitation Presents are certain to be worthy of your attention. Last Friday night The Reverberation Appreciation Society curated a remarkable lineup consisting of touring bands and local performers alike for an unbeatable price at Barracuda, located in the heart of downtown Austin. With consistent live music running on both inside and outside stages as well as visuals by Ether Wave & Vision System, there was no shortage of psychedelic stimuli to immerse oneself in. The night started off with hypnotic live sets from Austin’s own Hidden Ritual, Dallas Acid and solo act Al Lover as the venue began to thrive with a bustling crowd. Psychedelic pop act Annabelle Chairlegs exuded invigorating spirits on the outside stage just prior to True Widow taking the stage. Not a stranger to playing in Austin, the Dallas trio’s sludgy shoegaze struck a resonating chord with the audience, the anticipation tangible prior to and throughout their set. Moon Duo closed out the outdoor stage with an absolutely mesmerizing set and compelling stage presence. With Austin’s weather drastically falling to the low 40’s that night, no one seemed to bat an eye at the temperatures; instead all focus was on the pulsating performance, seeming to instill warmth into each individual’s nodding heads and moving bodies. Sailor Poon’s raw punk attitude rightfully demanded attention, their members decked out in Halloween attire and belting out infectious energy. Fort Worth post punk act Mind Spiders were the final act to take the inside stage, consisting of frontman Mark Ryan of The Marked Men. Mind Spiders had no issue keeping the intensity at a high for their 1AM set; creating a jarring and dissonant atmosphere, the band proved a fitting way to end out the Halloween weekend with Levitation. Be sure to keep an eye out for Levitation’s 2018 lineup, soon to be announced for their festival in April!
