Facebook Affection: A Rant

Prepare yourselves, ladies and gentlemen, because I am about to rant your face off. Now, Valentine’s Day was a while ago, and on that fine day, your news feed was probably filled with unusually affectionate things. Of course, that is to be expected. However, then you come across the girl who writes things such as “Honestly, I don’t know what I would do without the best boyfriend in the world,” and “You make my days brighter and my heart feel like a butterfly in metamorphosis…blah blah blah.” You get the picture. Now, these kinds of comments are permissible on Valentine’s Day, but what pisses me off is the kind of girl who posts these things EVERY SINGLE DAY OF HER LIFE. I get it. You really love your boyfriend, and he’s sweet to you, but you DON’T need to tell the whole world this every single day. It makes you look ridiculous.

In my opinion, it’s incredibly unhealthy to broadcast your love all over social media. If you feel like you have to prove to everyone else that you are in love, odds are, you and your significant other must not truly be happy. As a real life example, one of my close friends was in a pretty crappy relationship. It wasn’t abusive or anything, but he just wasn’t a good boyfriend. They ended up breaking up, getting back together a week later, and now she constantly posts things such as  “I love this boy sooooo much” all over everything. EVERY. SINGLE. THING. Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and even the occasional Instagram. It is incredibly annoying, and, as an inside source, I KNOW they aren’t that happy. They just feel like they need to broadcast that they are.

To wrap things up – You aren’t proving anything to anyone when you post that crap on social media. Telling the world that your boyfriend is the “best” won’t make him treat you any better, and definitely won’t make your relationship any stronger. I really don’t need to see another picture of you and your boyfriend kissing, so please just CEASE.  The only day that it is permissible is when you get engaged, or married, or on February 14th. Seeing as how that has passed already, I don’t want to hear anymore about your love life, please.
