Artist: Joe Gonzalez
Born in 1987 in Los Angeles, Joe Gonzalez is a Phoenix based artist known for featuring surreal human forms with an undercurrent of bright natural foliage. His influences include David Shrigley, Alphonse Mucha, Daniel Johnston , Edvard Munch and Henry Joseph Darger.
Joe’s artwork has been showcased in many diverse locales. The Green Vegetarian, Next Coffee Shop, Buffalo Exchange, Zia Records, and various other Arizona businesses. Mr. Gonzalez is similar to a rare steak; chewy at first but with a hearty finish… followed by a pool of blood, waiting to be soaked up. He has been published in Teen Ink and the Tempe Starving Artist.
You can often find Joe live-painting during First Friday in scorched downtown Phoenix with his co-artists and attack cats or live-streaming painting on his Facebook. His favorite color is rumored to be red. When not spewing teal or pink onto canvas or trying to focus his focus, Joe enjoys not thinking about all the unsold paintings and finding excuses to procrastinate. He is not currently displaying art anywhere. J̶o̶e̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶c̶u̶r̶r̶e̶n̶t̶l̶y̶ ̶s̶o̶b̶e̶r̶.
