Safety In Numbers: A Collaborative Art Benefit Show
Photo collage by Kevin Kurecki Jessica Nixon’s collaborative community art event, Safety in Numbers, featuring a wide range of visual art, music, performance art and film, will take place this Friday at The Monstrosity in Austin, TX. The intention behind the show is to bring a community together to experience a night of culture in hopes of raising money for SafePlace, a local non-profit organization that seeks to end sexual and domestic violence through safety, healing, prevention and social change. Organizer and curator Nixon has put together community art events in the past, including Pythagoras Discovering the Musical Intervals at Pump Project back in 2012. After graduating from…
Female Exploration
Based out of New York City, NY, Richard Supriano is an 18 year old graphic designer and artist currently attending Parsons the New School for Design. Supriano uses dots to create female erotic poses from selfies to show that female bodies are simply bodies and don’t always need to be sexualized. Upon first view of Supriano’s art, the viewer can clearly make out a female body, but as the viewer zooms in closer and on each individual piece and specific dot, the art (and body) becomes distorted. Here is a three-piece collection to Supriano’s nine piece series. To view the rest of his collection and artwork you can follow him…

Single Lash and Future Museums Takeover!
Nicolas Nadeau formed Single Lash as a solo endeavor during his college years in Providence, Rhode Island while attending RISD. Originally a noise based project, he later recruited hometown friend Colin Foster from San Antonio on bass to flesh out more of the colder, dark pop/shoegaze sensibilities. As the project grew and transformed through a myriad of genres and experiments; Neil Lord joined in early 2013 on drums, forming the band as it’s seen on its debut LP released on Mirror Universe Tapes. [embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRZxDO8vv2w[/embedyt] Single Lash by Single Lash Future Museums is the long standing outlet for Neil Lord. The project began as an ambient recording…

Calling Out – EZTV
Here we have the number one album of summer. Not THE summer… just summer. If a single season can have a soundtrack, this is it. Color me impressed as hell with this debut by Brooklyn trio EZTV. Who do I hear behind this band? I find Dire Straits in their riffs. Seriously, these are some fantastic and yet subtle enough works from the lead guitar. In their laid-back, beachy attitude, I hear Cayucas (these two are cousins at best though). I hear the Shins, in that EZTV is able to satisfy that Shins-esque tiptoe between easy-going and upbeat. But most of all, I hear the Kinks. EZTV captures…

Twenty Somethings
Photographer and interviewer Hannah Jones is currently working on a project about all the exciting, terrifying, and hopeful feelings that twenty-something year olds all go through – “the feeling of wishing we could just fast forward to our life in ten years and take a glimpse. The feeling of our own hopeless idealistic views on all the possibly great things that could come our way, if they ever will.” She asked a group of twenty something year olds about what it’s like to grow up in this day and age. This is their response. “There are moments when I feel like it’s too much. That the process is…
An Interview with Outsiders Krew
Words and Photography: Joy Celine Asto In early May, I had the pleasure of meeting Spag and Seb Toussaint from Caen, France and watching them work as street art duo Outsiders Krew in one of the grittiest slums here in Manila. After welcoming my companions and I, Spag led us through the narrow streets and labyrinthine alleyways of Gagalangin in Tondo – something which surprised me because he navigated every turn like a local. By then, they were almost done with the Manila leg of their “Share The Word Project”, so he took us to the murals they already completed. We were also lucky to have seen the Krew…
La Casa Al Mare Brings Shoegaze Reverb From Rome, Italy
Rome’s shoegaze and dream-pop band La Casa Al Mare (which translates best to “The House By the Sea”) came to fruition in 2008 as guitarist and vocalist Alessio Pindinelli’s solo project, but later turned into a fleshed out band with Marco Poloni on bass and Paolo Miceli on drums. The band members met through attending the same concerts and through friends of friends, thus La Casa Al Mare was formed. Marco’s former band, La Calle Mojada, rehearsaled in Wax Recording Studio, where Pindinelli recorded their EP at the time. La Calle Mojada also did a joint tour with Miceli’s project Sea Dweller. After both projects disbanded in 2010, La…

John Hurley is an 18 year old visual artist from Bumfuck, Louisiana with a good eye and big dreams. He has a dry sense of humor and a slick demeanor. Sneak Peak: Small Black’s “Boys Life”
Brooklyn-based band Small Black will release their new album, Best Blues, on October 16th. A ten track album revolving around the concept of memories and loss, Best Blues is “an attempt to re-examine the past, but also one to let it go.” Amidst the many items lost and discovered by singer Josh Hayden Kolenik after Hurricane Sandy destroyed his family’s home is a faded photograph of a women walking the shore at dusk. With no certain recollection of memories attached to the photo on their album cover, Small Black persuades the viewer to construct their own personal account of this forgotten image. Their song for “Boys Life” echoes these…
