The Marfa Diary: A Guide
When you mention to people that you’re going to Marfa, the usual response is “What the hell is that?” Marfa, Texas: Home to roughly 1,000 interesting and quirky people, and an 8.5 hour drive from my house. This tiny town located just outside of Big Bend in the western wing of Texas is relatively small, but home to a wide variety of surprisingly neat and artistic attractions. It might also be one of my favorite places in the world, as of this past weekend. Now, I wasn’t totally clueless when offered the chance to take a trip out to Marfa, but I certainly had no idea what to expect other…

Myth
Photographer: Ashley Armitage Featuring: Chase Hagar and Irene Bowen Ashley Armitage is a 21-year-old photographer from Seattle currently majoring in photography at UW. Her work is an exploration of what it means to represent femininity through a woman’s viewpoint and not through a man’s fantasy. Over the last few months, she has focused on highlighting the private lives and routines of girlhood. Applying makeup, getting dressed, hanging out in bedrooms, gossiping in bathrooms. These are all things that constitute girlhood and womanhood and are often ridiculed as superficial, vain, petty, and catty. Her work is an attempt to reclaim these activities in a positive light and to show teenage…
Raymond & Lane: The Theater Series with American Horror Story’s Jamie Brewer
Raymond and Lane have been super busy and have recently wrapped up their third episode of their three-part theater series! Starring Jamie Brewer from American Horror Story along with a fun and offbeat cast, Matt Cullen and Troy LaPersonerie create their own version of a very Raymond-and-Lane Cinderella story. An Interview with Jacco Gardner
Between his busy 150+ show tour schedule and working on his next album, up and coming psych musician Jacco Gardner (pronounced ‘Ya-ko Gard-ner’) managed to squeeze in a little interview with us during his stop in Dallas for his July 5th show with EZTV and Dinner at Club Dada. Seriously, what a guy. I feel as though this was less of an interview and more of a hangout sesh because this guy was fun and easy to talk to. And he just so happens to have an extensive knowledge of music and movies, which is always cool to discuss. ANON: To start, what was your primary inspiration behind…
Ears and Soul in the Clouds: A Shoegaze Night with Sixteen Deluxe, Casual Strangers, and Ringo Deathstarr
Set in the heart of Austin’s Red River music culture district, Empire Control Room boasts an enormous space with visuals spanning and surrounding a 180 degree scene inside their venue. No place could be more fitting than to host a bill comprised of this city’s very own psychedelic and shoegaze acts Casual Strangers, Sixteen Deluxe and Ringo Deathstarr. Casual Strangers are something of an enigma – continually toying with music genres of varying nature, one never knows quite what to expect from this experimental tour de force. Rather than scripting out the precise why’s and how’s, the band lets loose their creative energy to present a raw and…

SAILOR POON TAKEOVER!
Austin’s very own Sailor Poon came together just over a year ago and are taking the music scene into their own hands and carving out their very own space. Performing under various stage names like Sally Poon and Suzy Poon, what is immediately apparent is their familial-like connection and their ability to join forces to provide something genre-bending, both in their records and with their live performances. Describing their music as “shitty post sincerity”, you never quite know what to expect from Sailor Poon – from their country song “Ol’ Bessie” to their metal track “Butt Gush”, they’re down to experiment with it all. A little tongue in cheek,…

Sneak Preview: Matthew Anderson’s Lunar Tide
Ohio-born, Brooklyn-based songwriter and composer Matthew Anderson has been immersed in creating music for as far back as he can remember. His new solo record, Lunar Tide, is set to be released on Tuesday, July 7th. His album features performances from Ricky Petraglia (Carbon Mirage, Ponyhof), Finnegan Shanahan (Contemporaneous, Jherek Bischoff), along with other guests, and was mastered by Joe Lambert (Sharon Van Etten, The National, Johnny Cash, Washed Out).
