Album Review: Ty Segall’s ‘Manipulator’
It comes without surprise that Ty Segall’s newest album, “Manipulator”, is seventeen tracks of amazingness. However, this new record doesn’t progress how you would expect a Ty Segall record to progress, Segall is stepping into new territory with almost every song. From the beautiful string section featured in “The Clock” to the driving synthesizers of “The Connection Man” Segall is showing us sides to his music that we have never seen before. But if you’re a fan of Ty’s signature fuzzy lo-fi pop jams, have no fear, “Manipulator” will satisfy all your needs. Tracks like “The Crawler” push the limits of how much fuzz your pathetic human ears can handle…

Fashion Meets Function: Vere Verto FW 2014
There has always been the struggle between what’s fashionable and what’s functional, and usually you can’t have both. Stilettos are cool, but walking in them could be compared to how a baby giraffe looks during its first steps. Disastrous? You could say that. However, as important as shoes are, there’s one accessory that tops even those beauts – bags. Purses, more specifically. Everybody’s got their shit to haul around, whether its a cell phone, lipstick, or a poster of Ryan Gosling (you never know when you’re going to need it). But, the #struggle everyone has experienced is finding a bag that allows you to carry all of your necessities while…

One For The Locals: Technicolor Hearts & Les RAV
This Sunday, August 31st, at 7 pm, W Happenings and Transmission Events will be partnering up to present Living Room Live. This show (in the uber cool W Austin Records Room might I add) will feature Technicolor Hearts and special guest Les RAV! Self-proclaimed “art project for lovers,” Technicolor Hearts brings audiences a multi-layered show to say the least. I cool combination of music, art, synthesizers, props, dreamy lyrics, and more, they’re sure to knock your surreal socks off. Les RAV, who you will be seeing on the blog later in the week talking about Austin’s $3 shows, delivers an ethereal and emotional performance. With sounds coming from harps, violins,…

What We’re Loving: VERUM
Take a look into your closet. Chances are you’ll see a rainbow of cheap tanks, flimsy tees, and trendy-for-about-five-minutes skirts filling in the gaps between your more precious pieces. It’s nearly impossible to avoid buying into the massive industry of fast fashion, especially if you’re on a student’s budget and like to switch up your look from day to day, and with high fashion becoming cheapened by rampant logomania and a decreased attention to the craftsmanship that makes designer desirable in the first place, these so-called investment pieces often aren’t worth the investment anymore. Fashion is art, but it’s hard to see the artistry when fashion becomes more about…
Dating Sucks Ass
We’re not gonna lie. The email attached to this glorious piece read a little something like this, “So I posted this on FB a while ago claiming I read it, but in reality I wrote it about a girl and was just too much of a puss to claim it as mine. But today is my 21st birthday and I’m kinda drunk so whatever. Here ya go. ” Mad props to this guy. She was striking. She was poison. She was the ferocious whirlwind of discovery and chaos that threw me into the sky. She was serene. She was tenacious. She walked on sunbeams and had a voice that…
