  • CULTURE MACHINE Presents: Thin Blue Line

    April 29, 2014 /

CULTURE MACHINE’s latest fashion story, Thin Blue Line , comes from their Bali-based team. They scouted Siberian model, Maria Shantanova, on the last days of her holiday on the island. They came up with a concept, sourced clothes from local boutique stores and brands in 48 hours, and shot the story at the villa next door to their studio (SALT Studio). They turned a beautiful muse into an apotheosised siren. • Black is the New Black

    April 25, 2014 /

I faced my worst fear this past weekend. Spring. Shopping. The thought of wearing pastels literally makes me cringe. I’ll wear black till I die, and I don’t care what time of year it is. Despite this soap box I often find myself standing on, I will be the first to admit that there’s also a trend follower in me. I’m down for crop tops, printed pants, and lip stick, but some of the on-trend styles are stifling. And the lack of originality in spring clothing just kills me. There must be a line. So, for all of my fellow noir lovers out there, here’s a head-to-toe list of how…

You probably couldn’t give two bird shits about a bunch of dumb birds, but has anyone ever told you that you are lame and have dumb opinions.  Birds are way more fucking awesome than you.  Do you even lift bro? Here, watch these badass birds fighting in slo-mo. Birds are natural badasses, and sometimes they fight each other to see who the biggest badass is that gets to bang all the hot chicks.  Ducks sometimes fight nesting birds so they can sneak their own eggs into another’s nest.  They have to dump those kids because kids suuuuuck.  Sometimes birds fight just because the other bird has a cool stick it…

  • Movies To Die For: Teenage

    April 22, 2014 /

When I first read up on the root of Matt Wolf’s new flick, “Teenage,” I wasn’t convinced. What do you mean “the development of the teenager?” Teenagers have always been around… An entire phase of life didn’t just come out of nowhere. But, once I started the film, (curled on the couch with a glass of vino) I was pleasantly surprised. The movie ‘Teenage’ was originally inspired by punk author, Jon Savage, and his book Teenage, which is filled with enthralling stores of teenage life never before heard and biographies of youth revolutionaries. However, these stories weren’t of the teen rebels we’ve all heard about like the hippies and the punks;…

  • Interview With Matt Wolf, Director Of ‘Teenage’

    April 19, 2014 /

Last week, we had the chance to talk with Matt Wolf, director of the new independent film ‘Teenage’. The film discusses the lives of teenagers all over the world from the 1900s to the 1950s, focusing on the creation of the modern teenager, along with difficulties and experiences they faced with creating this new youth culture.     ANON: What inspired you to take on this project? Matt Wolf: I was inspired by Jon Savage’s book Teenage. I was a longtime fan of Jon’s writing— he wrote the definitive history of punk rock,  England’s Dreaming. What I loved about Teenage is all the hidden histories and forgotten biographies that Jon uncovered. I felt like he…

  • Travel Diary: Carmel, California

    April 18, 2014 /

One of my most treasured hideouts in California is none other than Carmel. For those who haven’t been, I really do wish you would take a day, and breathe in the air that surrounds this alluring city. From the exquisite, spiritual store I’ve come to know as The Secret Garden, to the comely, enticing beaches filled with nothing but good vibes, “Carmel” offers more than just a topping for ice cream and apples, but the sweet taste of summer, even in the treacherous winter, symphonizing spring, or florid fall. So take a minute and see for yourself what this godly place has to offer.

    April 9, 2014 /

Happy Birthday to the one and only queen of punk, Dame Vivienne Westwood! You know how to drape a dress, that’s for damn sure, but you also inspire us to stack our plaid, rip every t-shirt we’ve ever owned, and never underestimate the power of a solid mohawk. This punk goddess has ripped through the times with her endless imagination, opinions, and limitless talent. No stranger too strange, Vivienne only punks out the best celebrities and just seems to never stop. The provocateur has endless acclaims and mentions to her name, but you’ll never find her comfortable. Constantly pushing the boundaries of clothing and fashion, she has found opposition as…

  • Let’s Talk About Sex, Baby

    April 4, 2014 /

For some of you, sex may be a new thing you’re trying out lately, and that’s cool. But for those of you who have been at it for awhile, you probably know that sometimes it can get dull. So, in order to keep your sex spicy like your personality (yeah? yeah.), here’s some of my favorite tricks to use in the bedroom…or you know, wherever it happens. 1. Your first step towards a better sex life – watch some porn, read some erotica, check out some blogs (like this one, duh) or whatever you’re comfortable with in order to find some bedroom inspiration. An artist always gathers inspiration before just slappin’…

  • Get To Know Them: Cheval Sombre

    April 2, 2014 /

When you listen to Cheval Sombre’s music, it evokes a sense of freedom within you, like a road trip with no map or uncharted territory. His music has an airiness that keeps you floating from track to track. The artist recently released a teaser video for his new single, “It’s Not Time,” and we had a chance to ask the artist a few questions about his inspiration, touring, and what he has planned for the future. His answers, much like his music, were poetic, thought provoking, and made us hopeful that we’ll be hearing much more new music from the talented artist. Speaking of, Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia has announced Cheval Sombre on the bill for a…
