• Let Them Eat Cake

It’s no secret that our government doesn’t tell us everything they probably should.  They didn’t want to admit that they monitor us with the NSA, and I’m pretty sure they are still trying to murder Edward Snowden and his whole extended family for blowing the whistle on them.  News media isn’t a trustworthy source of information either, and they would rather report on Justin Beiber getting arrested for shitting on a sidewalk than tell us anything useful or profound going on in the world like the protests in Ukraine where the government is being kind of unchill and taking away peoples civil rights and stuff. I bring these things up…

  • Men’s Obsession: Doodles Homme

A few months ago, we happened to stumble across an up-in-coming menswear brand out of LA called Doodles Homme. As a few of you may recall, we even helped promote their Kickstarter for them. But anyway, within a few days of discovering this badass brand, they graciously sent us a bunch of samples from their new line, and well, this is the product of that. We rounded up a few model friends and a cool photographer and made our way out to Austin for a photo shoot. The brand has everything from patterns and prints to t-shirts and button-ups, as you can see. If this isn’t enough to make you…

  • Get to Know Them: SKATERS

New York based band SKATERS has been working and travelling nonstop ever since they signed with Warner Brothers Records in early 2013.  Now they’re about to release their very first LP, Manhattan, and we had the chance to talk with lead vocalist Michael Cummings.  We discussed the new album, influences, touring, and pizza (of course). Note: For those of you who haven’t listened to SKATERS yet, they’re basically the new Strokes, which is awesome. Trust us. We know these things. ANON:  Almost right after you all signed with your label you headed off to South By Southwest. How do you feel about the week-long chaos of that festival? MC:  We were making…

  • SKATERS Presents: “Miss Teen Massachusetts”

Remember SKATERS? Maybe this will refresh your memory (https://anonmagazine.com/indie-radar-skaters/). Well, THEY’RE BACK and are now offering us the chance to get on the interview train this week. Their single, “Miss Teen Massachusetts” won’t be educating you on world peace this year. Oh, no. SKATERS’ newest track off of their album Manhattan has Rolling Stone saying, “Hubbard provides layered guitar chords that are more waves of sound than riffs, adding to the video’s feeling of isolation. Meanwhile, Cummings’ detached voice adds another element of frost, further referencing the band’s post-punk influences.” SKATERS, who signed to WBR in early 2013, is a dynamic New York City band on the cusp of releasing their…

  • The Best Films of 2013

In a year with Scorsese and Coen, David O. Russell reigns supreme. Overall, 2013 killed it. What was one of the best years for rap and hip hop was also a stellar year in film. Dominated by everyone’s #WomanCrushWednesday – Jennifer Lawrence, this year’s film selection is sure to create some tension and unpredictability at the Academy Awards. Between another Coen Brothers spectacle and an over the top Scorsese flick, I narrowed a list down to the top 5 movies of 2013 that I had the pleasure of viewing. Let’s go backwards to add a little drama. 5. Gravity Bullock was great, Clooney was just as good, and Cuarón has…

  • What Is Love? (Baby Don’t Hurt Me)

Love, otherwise known as the infamous “L-Word” has been a mystery to me all of my life. Of course, I knew what it meant when I said I loved my parents or my friends…but what does it mean to love somebody? Somebody else. For me, it meant to love a guy. A guy I’m not related to, nor is he a life long friend that I’ve learned to love through shopping trips and sleepovers. He is just a guy. A guy I met that caught my attention. So, I’m sure some of you may have stopped reading by now, but I promise you this isn’t some sappy love story.…
