Indie Radar: Tera Melos
Holy Jesus, this math rock band, Tera Melos, is so god damn good. I have difficulty starting off this article, because this band is seriously unlike anything I’ve ever heard, so I’ll probably just make up for by swearing too much, BECAUSE THEY ARE FUCKING AMAZING. FUCKING. AMAZING. It’s also summer now, and I don’t want to exert my brain anymore. I fuckin’ wrecked my finals, and I deserve to not think for a bit. Photo Source Tera Melos are on a technical level that rivals most highly skilled progressive bands, such as Dream Theater and Kayo Dot (who is also quite good, if you want something else to check…
Diary Of A College Girl
Photo Source “I’m literally this close to going over there and telling them to SHUT THE HELL UP.” “Oh my gosh, quiet down, they’ll hear you!” Lisa was never one for my shameless acts of verbal aggression. “I don’t care! I’m trying to eat my Ihop in peace, and they are being ridiculously annoying.” I was never one for loud, obnoxious idiots in public restaurants as midnight. We did power through, though, and managed to finish our eggs and bacon before I went ape shit on the customers across the room. While waiting in line to pay for our meals, I looked over to the table of boys –…

Quote Of The Day
“I don’t give a shit what the world thinks. I was born a bitch, I was born a painter, I was born fucked. But I was happy in my way. You did not understand what I am. I am love. I am pleasure, I am essence, I am an idiot, I am an alcoholic, I am tenacious. I am; simply I am…You are a shit.” – Frida Kahlo, from an unsent letter to Diego Rivera

FAB or DRAB? – The Return of Overalls
The 1990’s are back in a big way. Boy-bands, Boy Meets World (sorta), Doc Marten’s, and just the 90’s grunge trend in general. However, one article of clothing from our youth has made its way back onto retail racks and runways across the globe: overalls. Yes, you heard me, OVERALLS. This is the one trend from the 90’s that I was sure would never return, but boy was I wrong. When I think of overalls, I think of being in the second grade, and rocking a purple pair with the Space Jam logo on the front. I was unable to find a picture of them, due to the fact that every pair…
Abercrombie Can Go Fitch Itself
I’ve never liked Abercrombie and Fitch for three big reasons: 1) They never had a lot of options in sizes. So, their clothes were tight on me, if they even fit me at all. 2) For the pitiful, uncreative product that you get, the clothes are quite overpriced. 3) Their ads always feature naked people. Why would a CLOTHING STORE need naked people to sell their clothes? It’s obvious, but I’ll state it anyway: their clothes aren’t that great, or even good. Photo Source Aww, the only thing that A&F has to excite people with is their rude, moronic public statements and nasty, sad, sexist (I can go on listing…
Sometimes, You Just Need A Brownie
…And, by sometimes, of course I mean most times. Also, by brownie, of course I mean brownie sundae. In reality, you need no actual reason to indulge in one of the most delicious sweet treats known to man, but in case you are one of those people that only “allow” yourself treats when you actually “deserve” them, let me give you some examples of life circumstances that would warrant some chocolatey goo on your picky little palate. Your most recent Instagram selfie only got 10 likes, one short of making all those damn names disappear. Ugh. Your A&P professor accidentally gave you the same exam he passed out as a…

Mothers of ANON
Today, we are celebrating the most important women on the planet – our mothers. These beautiful women have been here for us from our lowest points to our highest points. They have loved us all the same, no matter what. Although one day will never be enough time to say “thank you,” it is at least enough time to let her know how much she appreciated in the sincerest of forms. Mothers are the greatest gifts on this earth, and if it were not for my mom, I do not think that I would be who I am today. So, thank you mom, and all of the other moms…
Punk: Chaos to Couture
As the opening date of the highly anticipated “Punk: Chaos to Couture” exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute approaches, the fashion world is in a frenzy over the slashes and safety pins of 70’s-era punk rockers. Unsurprisingly, this trend has yet to trickle down to my oh-so-fashionable hometown of College Station, Texas. Why? First, high fashion tends to dawdle on its way to the masses. A new look will first appear in the pages of Vogue and on the runways at Fashion Week, then in upscale boutiques, and then in mega-hip big city chains like Topshop before finally meandering its way to small-town shops months later. Second,…
A Little Guide To Eating Healthy
I don’t think I really need to include a disclaimer, but just in case: I am in no way, shape, or form a nutrition specialist or professional about this stuff. I’ve googled and experimented, and that is the extent of my knowledge. All I know is, these tips work for me AND for other people. So, I don’t see why they wouldn’t work for you, too! The Eatwell Plate 1. Be patient. There are countless commercials and internet pop-ups that lure you in because of their promises to help you “Lose Weight Fast!” or “Get Abs In No Time!” Honey, these are scams, and despite the catchy slogans and the…

A Local Texas Find: The Chocolate Gallery
As a student who once lived in a large city, coming to College Station has been a bit of a culture change. There isn’t much to do in terms of recreation other than drinking, country dancing, and partying (which, I am perfectly fine with, don’t get me wrong but I look for more diversity than that). Now, if there is one thing you should know about us people who come from larger cities (city slickers if you may), it is that we usually know good food. So, I was walking around downtown Bryan, TX this past weekend, and looking into all of the miscellaneous shops, when I came across one that…

Electro Radar: Russ Chimes
Europe is on fire. The electronic music scene emanating out of France and England is simply unstoppable, and riding the wave is London-based producer Russ Chimes. The vintage eighties sytnhs mixed with the dynamite electro-house style has the 25 year old churning out hard-hitting tracks left and right. Similar to Justin Faust, Anoraak, and The Outrunners, Chimes’ addictive style and undeniable artistic skill (he was recently signed to the major dance label Positivia) is truly demonstrated by his unique, Daft Punk-esque electro-funk/disco vibe. With the release of his debut EP “Midnight Club” back in 2010 to positive critical and public acclaim, Russ Chimes showed music lovers foreign to the genre…
