College 101: Two WRONG Ways To Party
I was the stereotypical party girl during my freshman year of college. Nearly every weekend, you could find me at a house party or a bar, dancing and drinking the night away. It’s a phase that that many people go through; and one that inevitably brings with it mistakes and regrets, which most likely turn into a long list of what to avoid when going for a night on the town. Gif Source 1. Now, this first rule of thumb was taught to me not by my own actions, but my best friend’s. It was bound to happen to one of us, though, because we were new to the whole partying thing,…
Making Your Skin Friends With Finals Season
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, health care professional, or dermatologist. However, I have been fighting crime and breakouts since puberty! It’s that time of year again – Finals. Other than an insane amount of studying (I have to make a WHAT on my final to get an A!?!?), the one thing I know I can always count on is breaking out. The stress and destroyed routine, season change; oh alright, and a bowing down to bad habits during that last week of classes (ahhh!), and dead week (ughhh!), and finally finals (^&#$%^hh!) always gets to my skin. Now that I’m finally an upperclasswoman, I thought I’d compile a list of…
Mixtape Monday: Because Finals Suck
Do what you’ve been doing all semester long: procrastinate and listen to a kick-ass playlist. The summer is almost here, so why not do some pre-indulging? I swear, this is not an advertisement for Sprite or maybe it is… [8tracks url= “http://8tracks.com/anonmagazine/re-mix” height=”500″ width=”500″ playops=”shuffle”]

Staff Confessions: My First Kiss Went A Little Like This
By now, most everyone has experienced their first kiss – whether it be in with a nap time partner in kindergarten, or during those awkward middle school years. With that being said, we asked some of the staff members to tell the story of their first lip-locking experience. Megan: “Oh goodness, embarrassing story time! It was my junior year and my friends and I decided to go to this rave club and have our first real “club” experience. So cool, huh? It was interesting to say the least.I ended up meeting this super cute guy and hung out with him the whole night. I could tell that hewanted to kiss…
Not So Indie Radar: Jeff Rosenstock
Raise your hand if you are familiar with Jeff Rosenstock. Wait, no… put your hands down, because I can’t see you, like, at all. Shit, this is awkward. Look, the point I’m trying to illustrate is that if I COULD see you, then it’s likely that many of you haven’t raised your hands, which is a travesty, because this man is a legend. There’s a reason I decided not to put this under the Indie Radar label; Rosenstock has been around for ages. It’s not like he’s new on the radar, but it is like the radar missed him almost completely. I have a lot to cover, so, prepare to…
The Terror: A New Chapter For The Flaming Lips
Last month I got to see The Flaming Lips during SXSW in Austin. Being a Lips live show veteran, I ventured to Auditorium Shores expecting balloons, confetti, big-ass hands, lasers, or maybe Wayne riding the big hamster ball on top of the crowd, but instead I received “The Terror”. After being told that we were the biggest crowd in SXSW history, Wayne began to drape long plastic tubes over his body and then strapped a creepy, life-like baby to his left arm. Wayne proceeded to explain to the crowd that they were going to hear and see something new, for the first time, before anyone else, “So if we fuck…
Style Crush: Rita Ora
Debuting only a year ago, Rita Ora has quickly become one foxy fashionista we can’t stop obsessing over. Her style demonstrates the latest trend with the Brits: punk-elegance. The punk style has now become couture, and Rita sure knows how to show it. Always seen with bright red lipstick, beanies, and sass – this lady sure can rock anything. How to best describe her style? Take Rihanna, mix her with Chloe Sevigny, add a pinch of Chanel Haute Couture, then throw in some Sid Vicious. Ah. Rita, our message to you: LET US BE YOU. If we could steal one item of Rita’s, what would it be? Definitely her…

SPOTTED: European Street Style
At the time that I left College Station for a semester to go abroad to Dresden, Germany, I looked like any other Aggie girl. My hair was tied up in a messy bun, and I adorned a cozy, comfort color long sleeve, coupled with my Victoria’s Secret sweatpants. Draped over that was my oversized Columbia jacket, and a pair of Sperry’s topped it all off. 14 hours later, when I finally touched down in Germany, I was shocked at how remarkably well dressed the men and women were. Whether they had landed from a three or thirteen-hour flight, they were dressed as if they had just stepped out…
DIY Beauty Queen: Floral Headbands
I know you have all been seeing them everywhere and I know you all are just itching to embrace your contemporary flower child and I know the corporate version sold at places like Urban Outfitters are not cutting it for you. So in the name of warm summer days and music festivals, I am about to show you how you can make your very own floral headband. If Frida Kahlo did it, so can you. First, you are going to need a bit of inspiration. Go online and search for floral headbands so you can get an idea of how big you want it and what colors you would like…
Indie Radar: Sunrise and Ammunition
Meet Sunrise and Ammunition, the result of a drunken, misguided, yet glorious orgy between the members of Pink Floyd and Muse. These (only) three kids, none of whom are over the age of 19, are prodigies of progressive indie rock. Hailing from the Houston local scene, they produce a style of psychedelic mind-fuck that sounds like at least four or five people worked on it. When I saw this band a couple months ago, I was completely blown away, with my only criticism being the guitarist/ vocalist’s psuedo-emo haircut, which I quickly stopped caring about because I was slapped hard in the face by their energy and rapidly moving/changing…
A Penny For Your Thoughts
Female Vocalist: Teri Gender Bender
There are too many lovely female vocalists to count on both hands and feet in the music scene at the moment. A few to name are Megan James of Purity Ring, Florence Welsh, Lana Del Rey, Claire Boucher of Grimes, and my favorite at the moment, Teri Gender Bender of Le Butchrerettes and, most recently, Bosnian Rainbows. You are probably wondering where the name Teri Gender Bender came from and why it sounds so soaked in some kind of feminist/gender statement. That’s because it is. Oh, and who the hell is this goddess of a woman? Teri, 22, was born Teresa Suarez and grew up both in the United States,…

SPOTTED: On Campus Style
So, it’s probably well known by now that this magazine is run by students at Texas A&M, and, well, A&M isn’t well known for fashion. In fact, we aren’t known for fashion AT ALL. The only trends you see on this campus are XXXXXL t-shirts, Nike shorts, Ugg boots, and tights on the ladies, and Southern Tide polos, Chubbies shorts, and Sperry’s for the fellas. How original, right? So in attempt to find those few individuals that stand out from the crowd, we scavenged campus and managed to come across these few cool cats. I know, this isn’t anything close to the NY Fashion Week trends, but I applaud these…
Pretty In Pink: Duckie
There’s no doubt that most guys these days haven’t seen Pretty In Pink – it’s a given. But let me tell you, before you begin to call it a ‘stupid chick-flick,’ take a moment to watch it and admire the attire. The movie is set in the 1980’s starting Molly Ringwald (Andie) and Jon Cryer (Duckie), and tells the story of a girl facing the troubles of high school – the bitchy popular sluts, the handsome guy in shining armor who’s too rich for his own good, the best friend in the friendzone, and falling in love. *Que the sigh* So anyway, aside from the whole story line of Andie’s…
The Art Of The “Frenchie”
For many years now, I’ve had friends say “Gosh, that guy was such a great kisser. He really knew how to French.” And here I am, 20 years old, and I’ve never been a successful french kisser. Ever. I think I’ve only tried it a handful of times, and needless to say, it’s not my expertise. The first time a guy tried to launch his tongue down my throat, I ended up with slobber all over my oh-so-attractive brace face. It was 8th grade, my first kiss, midnight on New Years, blah blah blah. You get it. So romantic. Except, in all actuality, it was probably the farthest thing imaginable from…
SXSW 2013 Recap: Better Late Than Never
SXSW is a right of passage for any music enthusiast or avid watcher of people and subcultures. You have bands representing most continents, people from all cities and walks of life, food trucks catering to your every, imaginable hunger. Sounds wonderful, right? The problem is, if you do it the “right” way, it’s going to cost you a good majority of your student refund or the equivalent of several paychecks. Sadly, that was the exact reason I had stayed out of Austin, Texas during such an exciting period of the Spring season. This year, though, some of us here from ANON braved it up and ventured on a week long,…
Indie Radar – CHVRCHES
So, if you’re a music blog reader, you have most likely read something about CHVRCHES in the past year. The music world has seemingly fallen in love with the trio from Glasgow, and it is no wonder why we have. As if appearing out of nowhere, CHVRCHES has been on a daunting musical conquest of fame, and has sparked excitement for an 80’s synth revival in music. Almost a year after the release of their massively popular and exciting single “Lies,” which generated a massive following overnight, their debut EP “Recover” dropped last tuesday. Yep. It’s finally here. So, Get ready to have a new favorite band. The first time…

Girl Crush Alert: Lana Del Rey
Girl crush alert: Lana Del Rey. I cannot begin to tell you how much I love this woman. Now, say what you want about her music (I personally love it), but some don’t. So, in that regard, say what you will. However, none of you, and I mean NONE of you, can argue with how absolutely beautiful she is. Not to mention her FLAWLESS sense of style. Lana has a way of pulling off vintage clothes in every aspect of her life. I don’t think i’ve ever seen a picture of her in regular clothes. She always has on something inspired by a previous decade, which is something I absolutely…
Two Opinions On Gay Marriage
Opinion #1 comes from a student at Texas A&M University. He is reporting on the campus response to all of the recent GLBT news. Tensions have been running high on the campus of Texas A&M University this week, with the introduction of Student Senate Bill 65-70, referred to as The GLBT Funding Opt-Out Bill. This bill would allow any student who feels religiously opposed to the funding of the GLBT Resource Center on the campus of Texas A&M to opt-out of this portion of the mandatory University Advancement Fee. The GLBT Resource Center is located in Cain Hall. There are bookshelves lined with research aids, as well as pamphlets which…
Street Style: Summer Music Festivals
It’s finally spring, which can only mean one thing: music festival season. It’s personally my favorite time of the year; with the combination of fantastic music and street style fashion, nothing gets better than that. South by Southwest (SXSW) just wrapped up in Austin, and flipping through sites displaying top street style photos makes me super pumped to attend Coachella in two weeks. For those that don’t know, Coachella is a 3-day music festival that takes place in Indio, aka the middle-of-nowhere California desert. It seems like half of Los Angeles makes the 3 hour trip for at least one of the two weekends for the epic music event. The…
