River Jones has done it again – formerly known as Alta Violet, River Jones’ solo and self-titled project succeeds in encapsulating nostalgic haunting melodies combined with a fresh and individual perspective. Jones’ music video for “Black Pearls” depicts the world of a girl once loved and now gone astray, spiraling into the depths of her own supernatural and mystical domain. Flickering and distorted images are a recurrent motif in Jones’ videos, highlighting a reminiscent and romantic quality to his music. In “Black Pearls”, Jones’ addition of the occult united with purposeful camera angles and the juxtaposition of light and darkness magnifies an ominous tone. Despite once having loved and lost, he can’t help but “think about her every day”, and wonder what melancholy mysteries lie behind room 106. Director Carly Salter graduated from CU Boulder with a degree in Broadcast Production and is now based in Austin, Texas. Be on the look out for her website which plans to launch at the end of 2015. If you’re in Austin tonight you can come witness the premiere of “Black Pearls” at Cheer Up Charlies! The premiere starts at 7:30PM with free entry. You can RSVP and find out more information on their Facebook event page.
