My playlist runs the gamut of lo-fidelity recording: from the ambient fuzz you get from playing an old Victrola, to the rough cuts of Beat Happening in the 80’s, right up to the lo-fi hip hop that has become more recently popularized and is what most people think of now when they hear “lo-fi” (i.e. trap). I’m so obsessed with tape hiss and crackle and scratches…the buzzing, the hum…the flaws and imperfections that come out when an artist is recording on a shoestring in their bathroom.
